Creating Change

In this episode we interview Julian Lam. Julian offers us an inside perspective to the performing arts industry in Toronto from their professional experiences. We explore the issues BIPOC artists experience in the industry and discuss what changes need to be brought forward from an educational level to the performing world.

Julian attended Randolph College for the Performing Arts. He has since danced with the National Ballet of Canada and performed in Nuit Blanche. Julian founded his own company Red Coat Collective (R.C.C) where he was the Artistic Director. At R.C.C. Julian worked on the collective's inaugural work, The Boy With The Blue Umbrella. Currently Julian is the Principal Dancer at DiverseWorks Dance Company and the Artistic Producer at The Innovative Productions Theatre Company.

"You know the arts are specifically a mirror of societal values of the time. Nothing in the arts is going to change unless we change it in society" - Julian Lam
